COVID-19 has forced most of us to get over our fear of (or reluctance around) being on video.
I have been fortunate to be able to work from home for almost 14 years now. When I first started working from home, meetings over video wasn’t even a thing. But over the last few years, video meetings were becoming much more common. In my company, every meeting happens over video, so personally I was already very used to it, but I’ve noticed that for people in companies where video wasn’t the norm, it is becoming so now as most of the country (world!) has had to work from home (and remain productive) over the last few months.
I’m excited about this evolving trend with video because being on video truly helps people connect with you in a different way than they would over the phone or simply audio (i.e. a podcast recording).
I made a conscious effort to focus on video last year with my team at Summit CPA Group. We built out our YouTube channel, we launched a monthly video webinar, and we started posting video snippets on social media. Through our efforts we were able to see a significant impact on our numbers (leads, views, engagements, sales, etc.).
Now I want to challenge you to think about how implementing a video marketing strategy might help elevate you personally and/or professionally. No matter what your industry, video can help you grow your audience and, ultimately, increase your revenue.
Although I’m very used to seeing my face on video on a daily basis, I’m typically only meeting one-on-one or in small groups. When I have a larger audience, such as presenting in a webinar, it can produce a lot more anxiety for me and a greater need for mental preparation. I know a lot of people are like me where it doesn’t feel natural to present via video. It can be uncomfortable but, as you’ve probably noticed on social media, those who do it really stand out.
