- Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I’m not sure I do either intentionally. I write books to help transport people away from whatever reality they’re facing. I want my books to be an escape from the real world even if it’s just for a few hundred pages.
- Do you read your book reviews?
How do you deal with bad or good ones? I read every single review. I appreciate them all – the good and the bad. I’ve read a few negative ones that hurt my feelings in the moment, but after a day or two to reflect I take the feedback and learn from it. You can’t please everyone and people are entitled to their opinions. I try to take it all with a grain of salt.
- What is your favorite childhood book?
The mouse and the motorcycle!
- Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I have not always wanted to be a writer. As a matter of fact, I always wanted to be in the field of mathematics. I received a degree in math with a minor in secondary education. I considered engineering or actual sciences for a time. I despised English and despised writing even more. I didn’t even really enjoy reading until my mid-twenties. Over time I came to understand and enjoy the power of words and decided I wanted to write a book. The rest is history.
- What comes first, the plot or characters?
For me, a little bit of both, but I definitely develop the characters before I full develop the plot. In my case, the characters help to shape the plot. They drive the narrative.
- Are you on social media and can your readers interact with you?
I am on social media – Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. Yes readers can interact with me.
- Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?
I am currently working on book 2 of the Southport Series. This will be the sequel to Call Her Janie. I’m excited to see where it goes. There is a plan for book 3, but I need to finish book 2 first and make sure the book doesn’t change direction. I don’t usually know until I’m done writing it.
- What’s your favorite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?
The beach. Any beach. I am at peace when I’m at the beach. The sound of waves and the sun beating on my face just takes me to my happy place.
