About The Ghost Hunter

At sixteen, Gerald Dupickle faces his worst fear . . . college!

Awkward and shy, Gerald desperately wants to be part of the popular crowd—something he couldn’t accomplish in high school.

Gerald does his best to avoid the campus bullies, but after a brief run-in with the boys who wear black, he realizes things aren’t always what they appear to be.

After a ghostly encounter in the library, it’s the boys in black who come to his rescue. Fang and his team quickly realize Gerald has a gift—one that attracts ghosts.

But what happens when Gerald’s normal becomes paranormal? Legend has it, a terrifying presence stalks the halls of the Blue Owl Inn, a decaying Victorian mansion. On his first ghost hunt, it’s Gerald who draws Lily out of hiding. Mesmerized that ghosts truly live amongst us, Gerald sets out to do more than just prove that they exist—he wants to help the spirits cross over to the other side.

But do the spirits want his help?

Steve Altier is at his chilling best in this new supernatural tale that’s certain to send shivers down the reader’s spine.

  1. What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

I attended Inkers Con Writing conference in Dallas in 2019. I’ve been attending every year since via online. Still fun learning new things and keeping up with current trends.

  1. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It goes back and forth. Some days it pumps me up, especially when the words flow. But if the words aren’t flowing, I stop and do research and social media post. Might as well be productive.

  1. What is your writing Kryptonite?

Social media and Tik Tok, don’t get me started.

  1. What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

Editing. Once I’m done with the manuscript, I rewrite each chapter, then print the pages. They look different on paper. Once I’m pleased with what I have written, my wife reads them and more corrections are made. Then it’s off to the alpha readers. Once this is complete it’s off to the editor, followed by Beta and proof readers. All of this take months. But I’m a perfectionist and I want to put the best product on the market I can. Afterall you only get one chance to hook a reader for life.

  1. Describe a typical writing day.

I prefer to write in the morning hours. I like to start around 8:00 am and go until 11:00 or noon if everything is flowing. Then I enjoy a little lunch before taking a power nap. Thirty minutes usually does the trick. Afternoons I devote to marketing or story development.

  1. Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

They can visit my website, stevealtier.com. They can sign up for my newsletter. I send one the first week of every month. They can also check out my calendar of events if they would like to meet me in person. We are just starting to expand out of the southeast United States. Who knows where I’ll be appearing next.

  1. Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

I’m putting the finishing touches on another Gabby and Maddox adventure. “Over the Falls” when the young siblings visit Niagara Falls. I’m thrilled because now I can start on my next paranormal adventure, “Ole Man Smithers”. This is a spin off story from the Lizardville Ghost Stories.

  1. Favorite quote (doesn’t matter the source)

You can’t edit a blank page.

  1. How many bookshelves are in your house?

Seven total. All of them are in my office, along with my desk. I like to keep work and family life separate, when possible.
