It’s Meet the Author Monday! Each week we meet a new author and get to know a little about them, their writing process, publishing experience, and tips for other writers. Today we’re talking to Tom Evans, author of Soulwaves: A Future History and Soulwaves: Insertions.
About Tom Evans:

Tom is a UK-based writer who, after a 25 years as a techie in the broadcasting industry, became an author, an author’s mentor and meditation guide, all kind of by accident. He is now one of the most popular meditation guides on the free Insight Timer app. People like his British accent, his left-field approach, the practicality in his guidance and, not least, his sense of humour. His view is that meditation doesn’t have to be dull and worthy but can be fun and edutaining.
These days the revenue from his eclectic portfolio has given him freedom to devote 100% of his time to generating his creative output. He has latterly morphed into a novelist and ambient music composer. He is currently creating his 18th book called Soulwaves : The Duadex. He is serialising it in the Charles Dickens tradition but as an audiobook in interlinked set of what he calls MediTales : a synthesis of his meditations, out-of-this-world storytelling and ambient music.
He lives in Wiltshire in the UK with his life partner and a writer’s best friend, a labradoodle who takes him out for walks if he ever hits a creative block, or needs a pint.
About Soulwaves: A Future History:

Soulwaves is a metaphysical and cosmological adventure across space and time.
If you’ve ever wondered where we are heading, this book explores a possible near-future for humanity, and the Earth.
If you’ve ever wondered where we came from, be prepared to turn your thinking on its head.
If you’ve ever wondered if anyone is pulling your strings, this book will make you think again about chance encounters or serendipities in your life.
If you’ve ever suspected you are part of something bigger than you can imagine, this book is for you.
Soulwaves are the missing dark energy and dark matter that cosmologists can’t find. They bond people to people, moons to planets, planets to stars and stars to other stars to form galaxies.
Soulwaves are also integral to the cycle of life and death.
When this book proper begins in 2059, China has become the predominant force on the world stage. You will discover that events on planet Earth, and all other sentient planets, are nano-managed by greater and even more pervasive forces.

- What is the first book that made you cry?
The Snowgoose by Paul Gallico
- Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Kind of. To differentiate my non-fiction books from my new fictional creations, I’ve added an umlaut and become Töm Evans
- Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
I do. When I write, I am always in the meditative state. The words don’t so much come from me, rather they come through me. They come from the collective consciousness which we are all tapped into. Some of the words come from the future version of me, who knows the words I have yet to write.
- How long on average does it take you to write a book?
I wrote one book in just two weeks (This We Know) but it took 15 years and 15 the publication of other 15 other books before my first full novel, Soulwaves, was published.
- How do you handle writer’s block?
My first non-fiction book was all about getting over writer’s block. I rarely get it but when I do, I see it as an opportunity or a sign. It could be an opportunity to grow and learn or a sign that there is a better way or time to achieve my aims.
- When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?
I studied hypnotic language and use nested loops and Easter eggs to allude to further revelations.
- Where do you get your inspiration?
It comes entirely in the meditative state which I am trained at maintaining with my eyes open.
- Have any of your books been made into audiobooks? If so, what are the challenges in producing an audiobook?
Pretty much all my books since 2012 have been made into audiobooks. Nowadays I actually produce it first and find if I can’t say a sentence out loud, it won’t scan well when read ‘in loud’ in the ebook or print book. So audiobook production is an integral part of the publishing process. With the arrival of Findaway Voices, it’s now easy to get worldwide distribution.
- Tell us about your first published book? What was the journey like?
I wrote my first book, 100 Years of Ermintrude, at 39,000 feet in a 747 over the Atlantic on the way to a Caribbean holiday. It’s a complete life story told in just 33 stanzas of poetry. I published it when I got back and gave all the proceeds to a breast cancer charity and ended up walking 26 miles around London in a bra as a result. Books take authors, and readers, to places they never imagined.
- Do you write listening to music? If so, what music inspired or accompanied this current book?
I composed a whole album of ambient music inspired by my 1st novel, Soulwaves. As I recorded the album in trance, I find it entrancing to listen to while now writing the sequel.
- Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?
So the third book in the Soulwaves Anthology is called The Duadex. I left an open loop to it in the second book in the series. I am currently serialising it to subscribers exclusively on my new Soundwise app.
- Where can readers purchase your books?
www.tomevans.co/mybooks/. Also on Amazon and all online outlets.
