  1. What are common traps for aspiring writers?

I talk to so many people who are bright, talented, and have an incredible story to share. They say that one day they want to write a book. The problem is that they are waiting for the perfect time. The perfect time will never come. You just have to begin where you are. Even if you can only spare a half hour per day – start.

  1. Does a big ego help or hurt writers?

While I wrote a book about how painful it is to deal with a narcissist, there is a certain type of self-love that is beneficial for authors (and everyone for that matter). In order to succeed in anything you do, you have to be confident and, to some extent, promote your accomplishments. There is nothing wrong with a little ego so long as your self-interest is not at the expense of others.

  1. What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?

Cover art. While I have always designed my own websites and considered myself to be somewhat of an artist, I knew that I didn’t have the skill set requisite to be able to design my own cover. It’s such a nuanced art. Despite what they tell you, everyone judges a book by its cover.

  1. How many hours a day do you write?

I try to write one to two hours per day. I am a divorce attorney by trade and often work very long hours. Most of my writing occurs when I am done with my legal work so I usually sit down at my laptop starting around 1:00 a.m. every night. Fortunately, I’m a night owl, so it works well.

  1. What is your favorite childhood book?

The Polar Express.

  1. What book is currently on your bedside table?

The Bible.

  1. What do you like about audiobooks?

I used to spend a significant number of hours on the road each day as a lawyer. Audiobooks were a great way to pass the time in traffic.

  1. What do you like to do when you are not writing?

Go out to eat with my German Shepard, Athena. We are both foodies.

  1. What’s your favorite food?

Oysters.

  1. Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.

Before I wrote books, I used to model on the covers. I appeared on the United Kingdom version of a Danielle Steele novel.
