The length of TikTok videos is limited to 60 seconds.
Have you ever tried to review a book in 60 seconds? I can hardly respond to anything in less than a minute. This is the beauty of TikTok book reviews! The length restriction requires the reviewer to be concise and creative with their review.
I’ve seen many TikTok-ers do verbal reviews of the books they read. They talk fast and they get right to the point in their reviews.
Here are five TikTok-ers doing this:
Some reviewers will do a summary post. For example, a summary of:
- their 5 star picks
- top recommendations
- books that made them cry
- books read this week or month
- fast-paced books to get you out of a reading slump
- under-hyped books on BookTok
- top 5 psychological thrillers
- books that kept me hooked from start to finish
- books I will forever reread
- books for hopeless romantics
The creativity is endless when it comes to book reviews on TikTok. @sydneyyybean does a 30 Second Book Review. @fitzpleasurre does a hilarious series — “Reading Classics So You Don’t Have To”. @munnyreads (mentioned above) also did at least one video review of several books with just her facial expressions. This cracked me up!
As a book reviewer myself, one of the things I started playing around with is what I call “6-Word Book Reviews.” I found a sound on TikTok that allows me to point on the screen as 6 words pop up individually. I’ve had a lot of fun with this because it’s forced me to come up with very concise reviews that helps viewers decide whether or not they would want to read the book.
I’ll also do reviews showing a time-lapse video of me reading the book and then words on the screen with my condensed review. Every book I read is probably shown in at least 4-5 separate videos I post, each with different themes and purposes.
As you can see, there’s a lot of opportunity with book reviews on TikTok. Every review you can get of your book on TikTok exposes your book to every one of that TikTok-er’s followers.
So, how do you get your book reviewed by a TikTok-er?
Ask them! As you connect with readers on TikTok, ask a book reviewer to read your book, post a review, and share it on TikTok. Here are some hashtags you can search on TikTok to find some of these folks: #BookTok, #BookReview, #TikTokBookClub. You can also find more genre-specific reviewers by searching genre-specific hashtags.
You may not be able to schedule your book review posts exactly, since they are being posted by someone else, but you can send out as many requests as possible to get started. Then, once reviews for your book come out, you can duet them (on your own schedule) to feature them on your own profile in addition to the reviewer’s audience. Your reviewer will appreciate the additional exposure.

All of my research for this post led me to the conclusion that I clearly am missing out as I have not yet read the book The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. I added it to my wish list. Now there’s a real-life example of how TikTok book marketing works!
